Frequently Asked
Questions:

What function do carbohydrates, protein, and fats perform?
When your body needs energy, it looks for carbohydrates first. Simple carbohydrates - such as sugars, candy, and soda - give you instant energy and typically have no nutritional value. Complex carbohydrates - such as whole grains, cereals, and legumes - release energy slowly and often contain fibre. The body uses protein to build new cells, maintain tissues and break down new proteins - making it possible for you to perform basic daily body functions. Protein comes from meat, poultry, fish, eggs, cheese, legumes, and soy. Fats aid in energy production, cell building, oxygen transport, blood clotting, and the production of extremely active hormone-like substances called prostaglandins. Fats can be saturated - from animal products, such as butter, cream, and fatty meats; polyunsaturated - from safflower, sunflower, corn, and soybean oils; or monounsaturated - from olive and canola oils,

Why is it important for my children to have a daily multivitamin/mineral product?

Children often do not eat enough of the recommended nutrients in their daily diet. A multivitamin product can help ensure that children get the nutrients they need.

Q: If I eat a balanced diet, do I still need nutritional supplements?

A: Even with a healthy diet, you may be missing important vitamins and minerals, especially those that the body does not store. Supplements can help fill in those nutritional gaps

Q: Nutrilite Protein Powder:
It contains all essential amino acids. A group of athletes want to take it, but since there is no l-glutamine present (a non essential amino acid) they won't use it; can you help me ascertain:

(a) what advantage the competitor products have by including it in their formulas?

(b) why we do not put it in the formula?

(a) Gutamine is popular with athletes because it is very abundant in skeletal muscle. Branched chain amino acids which are also popular with athletes are precursors to glutamine. The research for supplemental glutamine is however pretty mixed in terms of any performance benefit.

(b) Our protein powder is geared for a broader audience and the main benefits are attributed to soy protein. It can certainly be used by athletes to increase their protein consumption. This group however often gravitates more towards the whey protein powders.

DOUBLE X ALLERGY?
Q: Could a person experience an allergic reaction to Double X and is it possible for a person to be allergic to any food substance, whether natural or synthetic?

A: In the case of a suspected food allergy, (which includes an allergy to food supplements), it is recommended that an elimination diet regime be followed (see below). What this means is that if Double X is suspected of causing an allergic reaction in an individual then they should discontinue taking Double X and see if the allergic symptoms stop within a few days. If the symptoms persist then it is probably not the Double X that caused them. Should the symptoms disappear then it is feasible that the person was reacting to one or more of the micro ingredients in the product; either on its own, or as a consequence to something eaten at the same time as taking the supplement dosage.

Elimination Diet
On the rare occasion where suspected allergies result from the supplement develops, it is suggested that the person stops all supplements and note if the allergy disappears. If this is the case then introduce the supplements slowly, on a gradual basis, as follows: Start with just the vitamin tablets, once only per day, with the main meal. If no untoward symptoms develop within 3 days then Introduce the mineral tablet according to the same regime as above. If no untoward symptoms develop within 3 days then Introduce the phytonutrient supplement as above. By this time the person should be taking just one of each supplement once a day, with the main meal. Gradually introduce the second daily dosage according to the above regime.
IF AT ANY TIME THE ALLERGY RETURNS AND PERSISTS THEN DISCONTINUE THE SUPPLEMENT
