HOW TO PICK THE BEST SHADE

IF YOUR SKIN IS FAIR, look for true pinks, nudes in slightly apricot shades, and dark berry colors. Stay away from brown which will wash you out - if your skin is very pale, pink bronze looks very pretty.

MEDIUM COMPLEXIONS can handle a little more depth. Instead of pink, try a strong rose shade. Nudes should verge on peach. Consider a reddish burgundy instead of pure red.

OLIVE-TONED SKIN is flattered most by shades that have some brown - anywhere from brown to raisin. Stay away from bright pinks or any formula with white or silver.

DARK SKIN can go in two directions - toward brown or purple. Caramel or walnut for day, plum or wine for evening.

MAKEUP LESSON BY MICHAEL DEVELLIS

What makeup application tip can you give a woman to help her get a pro-applied look?

Do not over complicate things. You can create an amazing makeup effect in as little as three or four steps.

Brush a light application of ARTISTRY Ideal Foundation over the face in the areas where you need to even out skin tone.

Apply the same medium tone peachy-brown eye colour to the lid and cheek-denser application on the lid with the most opacity near the lash line, soft subtle application to the cheek.

Apply your favorite lip colour – nearly any shade will work with this look, but my favorites would be Flatter, Prim or Rouge Creme Lip Colours. Then apply a light or liberal application of ARTISTRY mascara to finish off the look.

AN INTERVIEW WITH MICHAEL DEVELLIS

Johanna Westerhuis, Senior Brand Manager for ARTISTRY, had the opportunity to catch up with Michael in his Chelsea studio in New York City.

Johanna: What do you love most about working in the makeup industry?

Michael: I started working in makeup nearly fifteen years ago, and immediately fell in love with the artistry, passion, and creative energy of the people behind the makeup business. I cannot think of a business that includes a wider variety of people or provides a greater range of amazing opportunities and experiences. It is constantly changing, dynamic, and inspirational at every turn.

Johanna: There are many makeup lines. What makes ARTISTRY stand out to you?

Michael: True, there are many lines on the market. But there is more of everything now. More products, more options to learn about makeup artistry, more mediums to work in, and more ways to promote yourself as an artist. This all leads to a larger more complex industry. The complexity draws me to artists and product lines that are simple and focused. This is one of the things I found so appealing about the ARTISTRY line. It simply provides great, beautiful tools that are easy to understand and a pleasure to use. That is so important as an artist.

Johanna: What do you look for in a product?

Michael: I look for proof that it does what it says it will do and that it lasts as long as we need it to last. This is another one of the things that I love about the formulation of the ARTISTRY Eye and Cheek Colours. The density, texture, and amount of pigment in the products provide an amazing payoff on the skin. It looks as you expect it to – no surprises. If it looks blue, it is blue. If it shimmers now, it will still shimmer tonight.
