ll Nutrilite™ products are made according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), the standard mandated for the manufacture of medicines. Although this is not required for food supplements, Nutrilite™ follows this process voluntarily. As a consequence, all products made in the Nutrilite™ Plant are of pharmaceutical grade.

The Nutrilite™ Health Institute is also actively involved with standards-setting organisations, to ensure our practices and product quality meet or exceed the toughest regulatory standards in markets around the world.

Our commitment to quality is evident in everything we do.
You state that Nutrilite™ products are grown organically - does this mean that the contents are totally organic? My understanding is that it contains no synthetic ingredients whatsoever?
Nutrilite™ products are not 100% organic. The Nutrilite™ farms are certified organic farms. All concentrates grown on our farms are grown organically. However, due to climate needs and global volumes, we cannot grow all the necessary ingredients for global use. When possible, we source organic ingredients. Sometimes that is not possible due to availability and cost issues. At times, we use colorants to shade products.

Are synthetic vitamins and minerals added to the formulas? If so, why?
Regulatory guidelines restrict the use of some natural ingredients as sources for vitamins and minerals. In addition, it is very difficult to identify and incorporate natural sources of some nutrients (such as iron) that are amenable to consumer needs; plant sources offer non-heme iron that has low bioavailability, while heme-iron is available only from animal sources that many consumers prefer not to consume. Natural sources take up much more space in tablets, are much more expensive, and are often difficult to standardise in raw materials. For these reason, we find it beneficial to use synthetic ingredients in some of our products. In the case of vitamin C, most research indicates that synthetic ascorbic acid and natural vitamin C have the same bioavailability and function in the body, and that the body is incapable of recognising the difference between these ingredients. Natural vitamin C sources of course offer a range of other phytonutrients, and this explains why we prefer to use natural vitamin C from Acerola concentrate. In determining whether to use natural or synthetic ingredients, we review a number of criteria, the most important of which is functional activity in the body.

Is Double X recommended for pregnant/nursing women? If so, what is the serving?
Although Double X contains essential vitamins and minerals that are vital to the health of pregnant and lactating women, it also contains plant concentrates that may complicate a pregnancy. Some women may be especially sensitive to these concentrates (mainly sage and rosemary). Consequently, Double X is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women. Please consult a physician or dietician to identify appropriate supplements for this critical period of life.

When I take yeast I develop thrush. Can I take Nutrilite products?
Deactivated brewers yeast is used in some of our products by virtue of the fact that it has been deactivated it should not pose problems with women that are sensitive to yeast infections.

I have been told the yeast in Nutrilite™ products is deactivated. Will deactivated yeast still produce an allergic reaction in patients allergic to yeast?
Yes, Nutrilite™ yeast products have been deactivated. However, anyone with a true yeast allergy is advised against consuming these products. But note that a food allergy to yeast is very rare. A food allergy is an abnormal response to a food that is triggered by the immune system.

Does Nutrilite™ Omega 3 Oil contain only Salmon Oil?
Nutrilite™ sources fish with the purest and highest concentration of EPA and DHA. We used to use only the salmon in order to extract these oils, but research has led us to now use other fish, as described below.
Nutrilite™ Omega-3 Complex is produced from mixed fish oil, harvested from the deep, cold waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. These fish are rich in the type of fatty acids known as Omega-3 (and are shown on the product label): Anchovies, Sardines and Menhaden.

What is the more effective form of Glucosamine?
My parents are both using Nutrilite™ Glucosamine. They recently attended a nutrition talk by another manufacturer who claimed that Glucosamine Sulphate (which is in their product) has been proven to be more effective at easing joint pain than Glucosamine Hydrochloride (which is in the Nutrilite™ product). Is this true?
Although there is an ongoing debate as to which form of glucosamine is most effective, some researchers feel that glucosamine hydrochloride may be the best form because it has a slightly higher concentration of glucosamine in the molecule (83% versus 80% for glucosamine sulphate) and has better stability. Dr. Jason Theodosakis, MD, author of "The Arthritis Cure" and an authority on glucosamine, states: "The rumour is that glucosamine sulphate is the only form that beneficially affects the cartilage. This is incorrect. Glucosamine hydrochloride may actually be more effective gram for gram since there's more pure glucosamine per unit weight in the hydrochloride form. Besides, most of the glucosamine sold as sulphate is probably glucosamine hydrochloride anyway (with an added sulphate, such as the salt, potassium sulphate)."

Which Nutrilite™ products contain grape?
Hair Skin and Nails has grape seed extract, as does Double X Phytonutrient tablets.

I have heard that I can claim a refund from my medical aid for my Nutrilite™ purchases. Is this true and how do I go about claiming?
All Nutrilite™ products have a NAPPI code which is used by medical aids when claiming refunds. Members should contact their own medical aid personally and directly, quoting their medical aid number. They should ascertain if the medical aid, under the specific option to which they belong, will in fact pay for vitamin supplements. If the answer is in the affirmative, then they should verify the exact procedure that must be followed in order to claim back a partial or complete refund from their medical aid.
In most cases where a claim is accepted, the medical aid will require a certified receipt (for medicines purchased - NOT a doctor's prescription) obtainable ONLY from the patient's pharmacist or dispensing doctor, dentist or dietician, proving that he or she has bought the supplement from the medical practitioner in question. The practitioner's practice number, together with the NAPPI code, must appear on the claim from the practitioner.
NOTE: You CANNOT submit an Amway invoice, your own invoice or that from a supermarket or health shop.
